Jagrup Brar

Jagrup Brar, MLA from Surrey, British Columbia. He represents the New Democratic Party of British Columbia.

Born in India, Jagrup moved to Canada for his studies at the University of Manitoba where he received a Master's degree in Public Administration. In 1994 he moved to Surrey.

[edit] Time in Surrey

For over a decade, Jagrup worked in both the public and non-profit sectors, helping professionals wdevelop their careers and working with employers to develop strategies meant for recruiting a highly-skilled as well as multicultural workforce [1].

As the former Executive Director of the Surrey Self Employment and Entrepreneur Development Society (SEEDS), Jagrup Brar helped trained new entrepreneurs in developing and launching successful small business ventures.

He was first elected in October 2004 during a by-election with 6,740 votes (53.59%) [2] He then became a member of British Columbia's 37th Parliament. [3] He was also a member of the 38th Parliament from the same province [4] after being elected in 2005 with 11,553 votes (53.17%) [5].

After his election, many officials in the Punjab region of India including Rajdeep Singh Gill (Director-General of Police) and Teja Singh (General Secretary of the Punjab Basketball Association) congratulated him for making Punjabis proud. [6]

He is married to his wife Rajwant and they have one daughter.
