[edit] Reverted massive page trim

I have reverted Samuella's recent trim due in part to the scope of the change, and also to more closely match the style of other name article such as David (disambiguation), Paul, Eric, Peter, et cetera.

I really don't think having every person in the history of mankind with the word "Jack" in their name is appropriate for this page. If someone were wanting the article for Jack in the box then logically they would type "jack in the box" into the search box, not "Jack". The same can be said for nearly everything else on the page. People looking for the article on Jack the Ripper would not be looking for the Jack disambiguation page. If we want a page of every person named Jack, then let's make a "List of people named Jack" article, not pile them here. Just my two cents. Sam 20:56, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I think that Jack in the Box does not really need to be in the article, but Jack (mascot), and Jack the Ripper and Spring Heeled Jack do have a place, since they are the name or descriptors added to the name Jack. I also see that there is a Jack (name) article with some crossover with this one. It would be great if the Jack, or Jack (name), article was more like the John (name) article, but I do not think it can, or will, happen. Now that you mention List of people named Jack, that reminds me how much I dislike List articles. As this article stands currently it is a little too close to a list. Personaly I think all—ok, maybe just most or some—lists should be broken appart and replaced with Categories as necessary. Though maybe something like this would be just as good, and not as much work: List of all pages beginning with "Jack".
