i wish to add a way to spam his public email adress to this page.
i am asking anyone and eveyone who disagrees with his views to send him a polite, well thought out message that completely trashes his arguments and opinions on violent media and it's effects (how it causes everyone to kill each other for no apparent reason), and to keep sending him one per day until he responds with an equally well thought out response that attempts to tear apart our views and opinions about violent media (ie. not just a weak insult or vague legal threat). of course, he's an asshole, so that will never happen, and in the mean time we can begin filling his inbox.
Exposure on WikiPedia would undoubtedly help this cause. Even if it is only a link to a site, i can set up a blog with directions in a matter of moments and bingo, massive amounts of easy publicity for a just cause. i won't include my post (i developed one that i have been copyign and pasting all over forums) as it is very lengthy, so just tell me if you want to see it. Just waitign for it to be unprotected, so i can add my link/addition, depending on whether it would be removed (if you know which, please do tell).
- Down on the external links part you already have a link to JT's website, which has his email. If you want to flood his inbox, feel free. He'll just call you mentally challenged, or accuse you of having a mental disorder for disagreeing with him, with every email you send. Pointless, if you ask me. Not only that, but he'd probably file a lawsuit against you for cyberstalking him, although it would really not be stalking at all. I'd love to see him try that on someone, just to have the case shot down in court.
yea, i know, i alreayd have sent him a few emails, and the only replie i got was "get lost". Hoever, i think if more people know abotu him, what he is doing, and have his email adress, the more people who can be spamming him with common sense messages that perhaps he will eventually have to read. whether this willl sway is opinion or not i don't know, but i'm hoping.

- JT right now is in a place that if he decided that 1+1=4, not even Steven Hawkings will swey his mind. I would suggest not to waste time on futile efforts of attempting to reason or debate him, he's incapable of logicaly arguing his points. 82.80.1.104 06:08, 19 October 2005 (UTC) Ori Klein
- If you want to spam emails, send them to the news corps that give JT a voice.
- JT provides contact information on his own public website. Having his website as a related link should quash any need or desire to have his contact information posted in the Wikipedia entry. - Mausmalone
Protection
Look I'm a fan of GTA etc. but don't you guys have anything better to do than to flood this man's inbox and vandalize his page? I've gotten fed up and protected this page. --Redwolf24 21:11, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
- My God. I leave for 48 hours, and this page absolutely goes to Hell. Who did all of this?
- The subpoint under Correspondance about Sims 2 does not belong there, if it even belongs in the article at all. If it's going to stay, it should probably be moved to Videogame Cases.
- Michael Dude's message does not need to be included. At most, it should be linked.
- Thompson's Open Letter should be linked, and unless Thompson himself included the Hitler footnote, that too should be removed--it does not look to be Thompson's, is inaccurate, and EXCEPTIONALLY POV.
- I'm contacting moderators to un-protect this page so these changes can be made. Whoever requested it be protected to start with did so improperly while these issues were still in the article. --GarageBay9 02:51, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
-
- On Michael Dude's message, it's difficult to verify whether or not it's true. I would like to see the actual mail he sent and received from Thompson before we can keep any link to that thread in this article.
- A link to Thompson's Open Letter has already been provided at the Videogame Cases section, and is not nessesary to be included again in the External Links section. I do, however, agree that the Hilter staement at the end is clearly POV. ╫ 25 ring-a-ding 04:31, 29 July 2005 (UTC) ╫

- What in god's name has happened here? the kneejerk reactionists need to just leave this thing alone. Whilst they may not agree with Thompson's cruisade, surely by objectively listing the facts of what he has said and done instead of adding oppinions and planning spamming campaigns. Take it to your forums if you want to spam his inbox but that only strengthens his resolve as it proves him right about how juvinile and aggressive gamers are. We need to clean up the article and clean up the discussions here too. If you're interested in collecting as much official information about the Legend that is Jack Thompson then stick around. if you're just into mudslinging then take it someplace else. --Arcon 15:51, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

- Vociferously agreed, but locking the article in its present state is no solution at all. A few reverts might be a temporary solution; I recall a few past iterations of this entry that were less of a biased, badly-edited mess.
- I don't think it's a "badly-edited mess", honestly--somebody just randomly shoved several large chunks of unnecessary or inappropriate material into an otherwise decent article. I outlined the most needed changes above. Once those are made, we're back to a much better article.
The one part that is most problematic for me is Michael Dude's message--it's possibly relevant to the Sims 2 subheading, but looks exceptionally un-Wiki. I think, in order to maintain the visual credibility of the article, that it should be linked.- I removed that MichaelDude crap. Theres now a link at external links. Now this is starting to look like an encyclopedic article :) --Redwolf24 04:22, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

- I was under the impression that Wikipedia policy had no provision for that kind of selective locking. The article is either locked to all, or locked to none. I believe allowing anonymous editting is a fairly important idealogical function of WP. --Fox1 12:08, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Is this letter really his?
is jack thompson actually the author of this letter? not that i want to accuse anyone of lying, and i certainly dont agree with the man, but... well its incredibly full of logical fallacy, and i believe law schools traditionally teach logic and rhetoric, so it seems a bit incredible that any graduate of a law school would write it. there are too many ad hominem fallacies to count, several fallacies of definition, straw man and even a few red herrings.
(i.e. the parents need to be better parents statement by president bush was almost certainly not referring to the parents of the victims, but rather the parents of the perpetrators. i dont recall ever seeing any argument by the gaming industry that claims children have a constitutional right to consume pornography. doug lowensteins make-up really has nothing to do with the argument. etc, etc, ad nauseum )
this letter should be verified before being placed here, and if it is his it should certainly stand, but perhaps under a category separate from just who he is. P.S. i'm only saying that wikipedia should not have it posted until it is verified as being authored by mr. thompson, personally i think he's an idiot and it is the job of parents to supervise what their children watch and what games they play (and to make sure they understand the difference between fiction and reality), not the government. but that is my opinion, not a fact.
- Yes, he did write that letter. He's a lot like that and tends to use those methods while writing letters or making speeches. A self-righteous and horrible man. Finest argument for corporal punishment yet in my view.
- Verified several times over, and perfectly consistent with his character. It's called demagoguery. The fact that you actually expect someone involved in both politics and the media to be logical simply boggles my mind.
Videogame Cases
Videogame cases seems to be Jack's preocupation now and for the forseeable future. It makes sense to split the cases up into seperate headers, probably for the games he's been gunning for. The current section is getting a bit long anyway and it would make for easier reading if it was split up into sub-sections (GTA, Sims 2, Manhunt etc.). --Arcon 16:35, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- I'm in favor of it. This section has been getting too tedious to read with more new claims he made against other titles; also consider major cleanup of the section. ╫ 25 ring-a-ding 20:14, 6 August 2005 (UTC) ╫
Correspondence
The "correspondence" section doesn't seem NPOV enough. It's clearly very heavily negative even though much of what is said is demonstrably true (e.g., use of fallacies and misinformation). I say this though I hate Thompson as much as the next guy. - furrykef (Talk at me) 17:21, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- True, but whilst trying to remain object, his rude demenor when dealing with folk that arent in the press (ie. those who wont help futher his cause) has become infamous. Whilst it could be construded as being an attack on the guy, i see the correspondance section more a way of highlighting a characteristic which has become synonymous with those who try to communicate with him, even those wanting to rationally talk things out.
- The truth of the matter is that he's not a nice man to encounter through email and the article reflects that. If, however, you're talking about cleaning it up so it sounds more objective, i say go for it. The languaged currently used is a little suspect. Arcon 18:27, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- Personally I'd say it's fine as it is. It may be a bit rough, but it's accurate. Like it was with the Texas vs Castillo case - an arrest and trial for selling adult manga to an adult - it's easy to try too hard to sound neutral when the subject is genuinely absurd.
- I'll refrain from adding the words "ambulance chaser" to the article, though. --Kizor 14:38, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- [user:81.76.42.77|81.76.42.77] appears to have deleted the correspondence section entirely, on the principle of removing "weasel words". The section was pretty weaselly but in case someone feels strongly about it I thought I should add this note to the history. Collabi 21:20, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
- I thought that section was fine. I mean, sure it was negative about Jack, but it was truthful. Besides, he's an attorney. His debating skill should be expected to be scrutinised. It's part of his profession. CosmicFalcon 21:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Links; Contact
Who removed the contact information for Thompson? That is pretty important.
Also, there are more news stories on Thompson that can be added to links... best to get more than 1 editor's view on a story.
- Is it really necessary? I dont think there are any other articles on Wikipedia that have a Contact information. It just seems like whoever put it there just wanted people to contact & yell at Jack Thompson. --Evisruc

- Mmm, I second that. If not for just being consistent, it should be removed. *removing*. --MacAddct1984 02:17, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

- They're real. He posted them on his own website, StopKill.org. On the one hand, it's perfectly legitimate... on the other hand, it's probably the best choice, as anyone who'd have a legitimate reason to contact him should be smart enough to check his website for contact information. --awa64 3:45, October 19, 2005

Typical Arguments
Kudos to the person who added the Typical Arguments section. I think it really improves the article. However, it could use a little cleaning up... specifically in some of the formatting. It's currently using the bulleted list style, but then goes on to elaborate on some of the points using multiple paragraphs and quotes, which just plain looks bad. Perhaps if there were a way to align each along paragraph with the points, but I'm not sure that's possible. Instead, I think this should be converted into prose. I'm going to go eat dinner, then take a stab at this later tonight. If anyone else wants to help out before then, please do. --Fieari 21:45, August 8, 2005 (UTC)
- This section gets added and removed so frequently it makes me dizzy. Can we come to some kind of consensus as to whether it should remain? --Collabi 09:54, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- I originally added this section as a starting point to help readers deconstruct Thompson's use of loaded phrases, as I've noticed that he uses the same set of responses in a lot of his interviews and correspondence, in such an off-hand manner that they more often than not go unchallenged by the interviewer/editor/reporter/etc. I agree that it could do with some further explication. The fact that some of Thompson's key arguments (specifically the citation of medical studies, and the nature of the use of games by the military) are based on deception is important, and should be included in some fashion without worry of appearing subjective.
- I have no idea how to enter my own words here, so I'm going to piggyback on this.
- Where are the external links and vocal opposition? Who was the god who removed them? And as far as his phone number and address, they're on his main stopkill site. Th

'VG Cats' section
This really needs toning down heavily, if not incorporating into another section as a side note. The views of a couple of high-school web comic authors aren't particularly relevant to the article. The 'news report' prose style is also inappropriate. --84.92.255.106 00:26, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
- How about pruning and merging it into the correspondance section, as an example of his reputation for being, pardon my language, a dick? (Whether or not he is a dick, the sheer amount of vandalism this page gets declaring him one should substantiate that he has a reputation as one). --Fieari 01:18, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
-
- Why?????
- He legally and physically threatened the comic author, and also accused all gamers of being on drugs. You don't find that to be good dirt when the time comes? I do. --24.167.74.101 15:43, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

- Why? Because it reads like it was written like a young teenager, and is only very tenuously connected to the subject of the factual article. Don't sink to Jack's level, please. --212.135.233.110 09:23, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

- The VG Cats section has been returned into the article because an anon user 87.74.6.82 had recently removed this section without any explanation while returning another supposingly deleted-by-accident section. Seanbaby / Attack of the Show
Is there any link or reference to back up this claim? I saw this here and instantly went to Seanbaby's webpage, because I wanted to read where he made this amusing challenge, but I can't find it... --Fieari 01:18, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
Jack Thompson's personal information
A person by the name of Paul Gonzalez released quite an amount of Mr. Thompson's personal detail here; I need some verification on whether or not this is accurate before putting some of it in the article. But the page did pointed out, using Google Maps, where he lives [1], which could be an authentic attempt for all to recognize his residence. ╫ 25 ring-a-ding 13:13, 12 August 2005 (UTC) ╫

The heck?
I go away for a couple of months and this happens to the article? Googley moogley. Cut down on the commentary and discusiveness, try to keep it down to a list of what he's done and the things he's said. As for the section on correspondance, that should probably be limited to a series of external links to Thompson's correspondance with VG Cats, Kotaku, etc. Keep it clean, level headed, factual and NPOV, for crying out loud. --Sockatume 15:39, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
