Jacquemart Island

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacquemart Island is the name of one of the islets surrounding Campbell Island. Jacquemart Island is located at 52°37′S 169°7.5′E and is the southernmost island of New Zealand. Since Jacquemart Island is south of Campbell Island and Jacquemart Island is the southernmost of the islets surrounding Campbell Island, Jacquemart Island is the southermost extremity of New Zealand. While Jacquemart Island still belongs undisputedly to New Zealand, New Zealand also claims territory much further in the south which lies south of the southern 60th parallel. This territory, the Ross Dependency, is part of the Antarctic Treaty System.
