From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jack Strain (born 1963) is the sheriff of St. Tammany Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. He was first elected in 1995 after serving as police chief of Abita Springs, Louisiana, and was re-elected in 1999 and 2003.

Strain gained notoriety for controversial remarks following Hurricane Katrina. Among other things, Strain said "I don't want to see temporary housing, um, um, because of Katrina, turn into a long term housing for a bunch of thugs and trash that don't need to be in St. Tammany Parish," and "Now, ya know, I don’t get into calling people names and all that fact, but if you’re gonna walk the streets of St. Tammany Parish with dreadlocks and 'Chee Wee' hairstyles, then you can expect to be getting a visit from a sheriff’s deputy."

Strain's remarks appear in the beginning of the song "I Shot The Sheriff" by rapper Truth Universal.
