J. William White was professor of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania (John Rhae Barton professor). He was the first to use orchidectomy for the treatment of prostatic hypertrophy and was a early user of X-Ray, having published an extensive paper on its diagbostic capabilities for fractures nine months after Roentgen discovered X-Rays.
