[edit] Training

Dazz was trained in Greenville, South Carolina in 1996 by former NWA jobber Brodie Ray Chase and indy wrestler Mikki Free. Dazz was a quick learner, and had his debut as "The Natural" Dale Hedden for Chase's promotion on November 12, 1996 in Greenville, battling to a time limit draw with Free.

[edit] Early Career/NCW

While still wrestling for Chase's indy promotion, Dazz met another indy wrestler who was training with Chase and Free, Scottie Wrenn. The two qucikly formed the tag team, "The Boogaloo Crew". They continued to wrestle as a team for indy promotions, where the team met Rick Michaels, who was wrestling for Chase's promotion as well. Micheals took the young team under his wing and began to book them on his promtion, National Championship Wrestling (NCW), in Cornelia, Georgia. The team won NCW's tag titles on March 7, 1999 in a three-way match against the tag teams Armageddon and the Road Hoggs.[1]

[edit] The Boogaloo Crew

Soon after The Boogaloo Crew arrived, NCW merged with NWA Georgia, promoted by Bill Behrens, and was re-named NWA Wildside. The Boogaloo Crew continued to be one of the best tag teams in the company, eventually winning the company's tag belts on August 8, 2000 in a 9-team, one night tournament, eventually beating Terry Knight and Onyx in the finals.[2] The Boogaloo Crew would lose the titles to Suicidal Tendencies (Jon Phoenix and Adam Jacobs) on January 6, 2001. After the team of 3 Count (Shannon Moore and Shane Helms) won the belts on January 19, 2001, Dazz and Wrenn would re-capture the straps one night later on January 20, 2001 from the team of Moore and Helms in Cornelia, Georgia. [3] This was the last time Dazz would hold the Wildside Tag Titles, moving on to singles competition and the Junior Heavyweight Division.

[edit] Junior Heavyweight Division

Dazz successfully transitioned into the singles division, capturing the NWA Wildside Junior Heavyweight Title on 2 separate occasion. His first reign would come on March 24, 2001 after pinnning Caprice Coleman. After losing to Jimmy Rave on April Fool's Day 2001 in a three-way match, that also included Coleman, Dazz won the title for a second time on September 29, 2001, beating Rave, to avenge his earlier loss.[4] Dazz would not lose the title again, having his reign ended on October 6, 2001 with the belt being held up after a controversial match with A. J. Styles. One night later Rave would win the title in a four-way match that also included Dazz, Styles, and Jason Cross.[5]
