J.A. Pierce was the first Head Football Coach for the University of Tennessee football team. He coached the Volunteers from 1899-1900, compling a record of 9-4-1. At the time Pierce coached, there were no assistant coaches, meaning Pierce had the sole responsibility for coaching the team.
During the 1920's Pierce coached at Corsicana High School in Corsicana, Texas. [1]
