Jón Thoroddsen elder (October 5, 1818 or 1819 – March 8, 1868) was an Icelandic author.

His novels Piltur og Stúlka (Boy and Girl) and Maður og Kona (Man and Woman) mark the beginning of modern Icelandic narrative. [citation needed]
