IX Equilibrium is the third LP by the black metal band Emperor. It is quite different from earlier releases, heading away from the black metal genre and into a more progressive styled extreme metal with a more prominent death metal sound, featuring a mix of clean and growled vocals. Due to the considerable amount of death metal influences, this album is sometimes considered to be a defining "blackened death metal" release, although this is debatable as this album (along with their final release) seem to incorporate many different styles into the music.
