Iwata (磐田市; -shi) is a city located in Shizuoka, Japan. The city was founded on April 1, 1948. As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 88,810 and the density of 1,381.83 persons per km². The total area is 64.27 km². As of March 1, 2005, after mergers, it has 174,365 people and 164.08 km.

Yamaha was founded in Iwata and maintains a strong presence in the city.

It is also home to Júbilo Iwata, a J. League soccer teams.
