This article is about the city in Fukushima. Iwaki Province was an old province of Japan. Iwaki (volcano) is a volcano on the island of Honshū.
Iwaki (いわき市; -shi) is a city located in Fukushima, Japan.
As of December 2005, the city has an estimated population of 354,617. The total area is 1,231.34 km², giving a density of 288 persons per km².
The city was incorporated on October 1, 1966, with the merger of 14 municipalities (five cities, 4 towns and 5 villages). The cities were Taira, Uchigo, Iwaki, Nakoso, and Joban; the towns, Yotsukura, Toono, Ogawa and Hisanohama; and the five villages were Yoshima, Miwa, Tabito, Kawamae and Ohisa. Taira was chosen as the location for City Hall and other administrative offices and continues to function as the centre of Iwaki.
Iwaki is one of the growing number of hiragana cities.
