Itchycoo Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Itchycoo Park the nickname of Little Ilford Park, located in the London suburb of Manor Park. The 'itchycoo' nickname is attributed to the huge quantity of stinging nettles which grew there and of which both the local children and courting couples fell foul. The park itself is located in Church Road E12. Another local park in the nearby town of Ilford, and known as Valentines Park, was also often referred to as Itchycoo Park (probably for the same reasons), but it is thought that it was Little Ilford Park and not Valentines Park which was the subject of the famous song by the Small Faces. This is due to the fact that the late Steve Marriott (singer and song-writer in the Small Faces) actually grew up in Manor Park (confusingly not a park) where the Little Ilford Park would have been his local park.
