Italian submarine Alagi was an Italian 600-Serie Adua class submarine, serving the Regia Marina during World War II. It was named after Amba Alagi mountain in Ethiopia.
It was built in CRDA shipyard, in Monfalcone: laid down on 19 March 1936, launched 15 November of the same year, commissioned on 6 March 1937.
Alagi, member of the 7th Group - 71st Squadron of the submarine fleet, was still operating on 8 September 1943, when Allies and Italy signed the armistice. Alagi arrived in Malta with the Regia Marina fleet. It was sold for scrap on 1 February 1948.
[edit] Major events
Alagi operated to intercept and block August 1942 Allied convoy to Malta (Operation Pedestal). It succeeded in damaging Royal Navy cruiser HMS Kenya and sinking a merchant ship, on 12 August.
