Italian hot dog
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An Italian Hot Dog is a type of hot dog most popular in Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties in north-eastern New Jersey and the boardwalk of the New Jersey shore. Although there are a number of different ways to prepare one, the basic ingredients are a cooked hot dog and a combination of fried peppers, onions, and potatoes, although in some places french fries are used instead. The hot dog is then placed on a submarine-sandwich type italian roll, and topped with the vegetables. Mustard is the most common condiment, although chili or tomato sauce are sometimes used. Many New Jerseyans view the Italian Hot Dog as their state's answer to the Philly Cheesesteak and other such sandwiches.
