It Could Be You was the final song to be released from Blur's album The Great Escape (see 1995 in music. It was released in Japan only.

The lyrics are once again in theme with Blur's Britpop style of the early 1990s, with British people/things mentioned, such as Winston Churchill, The National Lottery, Beer and British Television, and lastly Trafalgar Square

There is a call and response section as the bridge of the song, in which Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon shout to each other "It Could Be You" or "It Could Be Me".

The promotional video was a low-budget affair, similar to another 1996 song by the band, Stereotypes. It showed the band playing in a dark hall, with snippets of people bathing in the sea.
