[edit] Spacing

Hi Humus and Neutrality, good work! There should be no white blocks of empty space next to/above/below articles. Try to have the page filled evenly. This looks like an excellent start! Best wishes. IZAK 10:30, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

I'm thinking of adding a few more panels:
  • History & Places
  • People
  • Cuisine
  • Arts & Culture
  • Categories
Why only thinking instead of doing? Don't have time right now. Humus sapiensTalk 20:02, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
The portal turned out wonderful! However, there is a small technical peoblem: the right box is lower and not parallel to the right box. MathKnight 07:15, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
Got it. El_C 08:21, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
Firefox renders it OK. But I just saw what IE makes out of it and now "I can feel your pain". Let's try to fix it somehow. Humus sapiensTalk 07:16, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
Looks better. Please see if this works for you, folks. Humus sapiensTalk 08:12, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Shortcuts

I'd like to propose a new shortcut for the portal: WP:Israel, but not really happy with the current placement. See also WP:WNBI. Humus sapiensTalk 17:23, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hey guys!

Hey guys, great job!

Just curious, though. Do you think it's time for a refresh? New featured articles, new Did you knows? That sort of thing? I can help if you need it. --Hersch 23:28, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Sure, go ahead. You don't need to ask for permission around here. Humus sapiensTalk 04:38, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Updated to the U of H article.. Is there an archive for Featured articles where I can put the Jerusalem info? --Hersch 22:04, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
Good job. I didn't bother with the archive because I'm lazy I thought history function is enough. Humus sapiensTalk 23:59, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
Updated to the Masada article. I figure it's time for something new.. Took a suggestion from the proposed featured articles list. --Hersch 21:18, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hebrew naming conventions

Urgent: see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew) to add your opinions about this important matter. Thank you. IZAK 17:25, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] News section seems absurd

The news section on the right seems an absurd collection of unencyclopedia-like content (WP:NOT a mere collection of external links). Yes, Israelis do have a thing for their news, and Jews around the world are very concerned about what's going on in Israel and its portrayal in world media. Still, that does not seem to justify something better found at a web directory and unparalleled in any other Wikiportals I've seen: indeed this section is meant for news updates themselves, not a listing of sources. When Humus sapiens first moved to this format with the question links to newssources are better than outdated news. Should we remove this panel altogether?, I would have answered yes. Any opinions? jnothman talk 11:22, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, we should remove the panel. --Siva1979Talk to me 11:43, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SHABAS

I'm posting this here since I don't think it will get much attention on WP:RA. Basically there is still no article on the prison service, SHABAS, and I think that's pretty bad. It's possibly the most important Israel-related article that still doesn't exist. The other one being Education Minister of Israel (there is a Finance Minister of Israel even though there's nothing about the ministry itself). I don't think many Wikipedians work for SHABAS, or there would've been something, but anyone who knows anything about the prison service, please create an article; it would be greatly appreciated. -- Y Ynhockey || Talk Y 07:56, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

You can also take information from he:שירות בתי הסוהר.

I am copying this to Wikipedia talk:Notice board for Israel-related topics where I feel it is more relevant. jnothman talk 01:01, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] banning of Pro Israel editors

You may be intesrted to look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_arbitration/Zeq/Proposed_decision

It resulted from very low particiopation in articles about the Middle east by pro-israeli editors which left it open for palestinian propeganda.

[edit] Lots of Problems with translatinos

First of all, the translation of "Did you Know" is wrong. It means "the know". Second, it is written in the feminine plaural. Unless every single wikipedia user is female (which is obviously not the case) it should be in the masculine. I have no Hebrew typing capability in IE, but if you have DavkaWriter give me your e-mail address and I will e-mail you the translation. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Smartyshoe (talkcontribs) 11:15, 16 April 2006 (UTC).

The translation is correct. '?הידעת' means 'Did you know?' -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:42, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fixing the portal

The portal is messed up, the right side is out of place. I tryed fixing it but without success. Can any one with a better knowhow fix it? --TheYmode 08:44, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Banners?

Shalom, all. I realize this isn't a WikiProject, and so I am not quite sure how it works differently. But seeing as how there is no "WikiProject Israel", I thought it might be pertinent that you (we) have a project banner to place on talk pages of articles, labeling them as Israeli articles and linking them back here. I was going to just go ahead and do it, but I decided as I am not a member of your project/portal, I'd talk it out first. Todah. LordAmeth 12:43, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Can we make a WikiProject Israel?

You absolutely could. And I'd love to join, once it gets off the ground. Check out Wikipedia: WikiProjects for more info on how to start one up. LordAmeth 01:06, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Israeli cuisine

"Israelis love falafel and baba ganoush."

This sentence is downright ridiculous. As well note Israeli music by saying "Israelis love to listen to Chava Alberstein." Israel is diverse in its tastes and sub-cultures, just like any other country (and perhaps more than most). An article on Israeli cuisine might not be amiss, but alongside well-known Middle Eastern foods like hummus & tchina, you can also mention Ashkenazi foods like gefilte fish, holiday foods like hamantasch, and even Russian or Ethipian food. And of course the legal limitations of kosherness and associated controversy.

I'd edit it right now, but I haven't seen an article like this, and I think consensus would be a good idea, in this case. LeaHazel : talk : contribs 15:25, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't mind. See Category:Israeli cuisine. ←Humus sapiens ну? 12:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
