The Montefiori Windmill is a recognizable Jerusalem landmark. The windmill is in the Mishkenot Sha’ananim neighborhood. The neighborhood, funded by British Jewish mogul Moses Montefiori, was the first Jewish neighborhood built outside of the Old City walls. The neighborhood was very dangerous when built in 1861, as it was outside of the protection the Old City provided. Today it is an artist colony.
