Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. (Nasdaq ISLE), spun off from Crowne Plaza in 1990 and headquartered in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA, operates gambling casinos and associated entertainment and lodging facilities in the U.S. and abroad.

Most of its U.S. casinos operate under the name 'Isle of Capri' and have a tropical island theme.

[edit] History

Isle of Capri was the first gaming establishment to trade on the NASDAQ.

Its Biloxi casino (but not its hotel) was destroyed and its Lake Charles facilities damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, respectively.[1] [2]

Recently it announced plans to move the company headquarters to Saint Louis, Missouri.

On February 14, 2006 Isle of Capri announced plans to sell the Isle of Capri Bossier City and Isle of Capri Vicksburg to Legends Gaming for $240 million.

The company is currently competing for a gambling license in the city of Pittsburgh. Its plan for the city states that if awarded the license, the company would contribute nearly $290 million towards building a new arena for the Pittsburgh Penguins, whose hopes of remaining in the city are dwindling. Local support for the Isle of Capri's plan has been enormous.
