From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isle au Haut is a town in Knox County, Maine, U.S., on an island of the same name in Penobscot Bay. Prior to separation in 1868 the town was part of Deer Isle.[1] The population was 79 at the 2000 census. Lobster fishing is the main local industry, while the portions of Acadia National Park which cover most of the island attract a few tourists. A number of vacation houses—far fewer than the nearby summer colonies of North Haven, Vinalhaven and Mount Desert Island—more than double the town's population during the summer.
