[edit] How did people cook before gas and electricity?

[edit] A very, very long time ago!

Back then, people didn’t cook food at all – not even meat. They didn’t realise it was bad for you. Eventually, though, the cavemen invented fire. They could throw their raw food onto the fire and enjoy a nice (burned) rabbit. Or, they could hang it on a spit to roast it.

[edit] A long time ago.

Then, people started using cast-iron cookers. These had a fire in the side, two shelves, and a hob. When you light the fire, it heats the shelves beside it and the hob above it. You could boil food on the hob, or roast or grill food in the shelves.

[edit] Upgrades to cast-iron

Soon, people also had tubs of water next to the fire, too. This meant that they could have hot water quickly, when they wanted.

[edit] Now

Now, we have gas and electricity, so cooking is much simpler, quicker and healthier.
