Isabella of Antioch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isabella of Lusignan was wife of Henry of Antioch and Regent of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

She was the daughter of Alice of Champagne and Hugh I of Cyprus, and the sister-in-law of Plaisance of Antioch, queen of Cyprus who married her brother. She married Henry of Antioch, brother of Bohemund V of Antioch and of Plaisance, with whom she had Hugh I of Jerusalem (Hugh III of Cyprus).

Plaisance ruled as Regent of Jerusalem for her son Hugh II of Cyprus until her death in 1261; Isabella took her place and ruled as regent until 1264 when her own son was around 29 years old and took his mother's position by the decision of Haute Cour of Jerusalem, superseding his cousin of Brienne, who was son of his mother's elder sister.
