[edit] Important Facts
[edit] Layout
Iroquois Ridge High School (IRHS) has 3 floors that are divided up by section. The first floor is reserved for courses that have to do mainly with Business, the Arts, Humanities, Technologies, and Physical Education. The second floor is devoted almost entirely to Language Arts and Social Studies, and the third floor is comprised of maths and sciences. The front entrance hallway is nicknamed "The Street" because of it's planted trees and old-fashioned street lights. Hanging from the ceiling are large flags of the provinces and territories of Canada illuminated by a skylight that covers the entire ceiling. The school also has two art rooms, a theatre, two music rooms, computer labs, and auto workshops.
[edit] Recreational Facilities
IRHS has a large gymnasium, a soccer/football field, and a fitness center. Nearby is the Iroquois Ridge community centre that houses an 25 metre swimming pool, a weight room, and a library with free internet access. There are also 2 lit ballparks behind the school that are maintained by the Town of Oakville.
[edit] Rivalry
IRHS has a strong rivalry with White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS). Prior to the construction of IRHS, students living in the area were attending WOSS, the next closest public high school. When the school was constructed and WOSS's population divided, a rivalry ensued.
[edit] Accomplishments
During the school year of 2004-2005, the school was in the CTV late night news for collecting over $800 in under 20 minutes for tsunami relief help. The school's Global Issues club organises other issues, including an annual Halloween 4 Hunger food drive. In October 2006, the school set a world record for the most number of people standing against something, which will be published in the 2007 edition of the Guinness World Records. Overall, Iroquois is not focused on academic or athletic achievements but to contributing to a larger community, whether it be a town, a country, or a world.
