The Iron Warrior is a bi-weekly publication created by Faculty of Engineering students at the University of Waterloo.

[edit] Content

The Iron Warrior serves as an outlet for the numerous engineering students at the University of Waterloo. The content usually includes news and current events regarding the world at large, issues pertaining to engineering in general such as technological advancements, the ongoings of the student engineering society and opinions regarding any of the above. The paper is also a source of humour and tends to contain many satirical pieces.

[edit] Frequent Features

The Iron Warrior contains many features that appear frequently throughout its long history. These include the following:

  • Engineering Society Executive Reports - The executive of the engineering society write biweekly reports about events and news and publish them in the Iron Warrior
  • Iron Inquisition - The Inquisition is a survey asked to people passing through the engineering buildings (not necessarily engineering students). It is usually about a current event or issue and the responses are usually humorous in nature.
  • LowRider - LowRider is a parody of traditional help columns like Dear Abby. The position of Low Rider was created by a former chemical engineering student named Jose Penate. Along with creating the position of LowRider, Penate also fabricated an entire "history" of LowRider, which included two members of the chemical engineering faculty.
  • Point-Counter Point (PCP) - PCP is a debate between two IW staff writers, usually about current events, in particular those directly affecting UW engineering students, although can humorous rather than serious at times. This can sometimes be expanded into more than two opinion pieces in order to represent multiple opinions (such as which Star Trek series was the best [1]).
  • Tin Soldier - The Tin Soldier is a parody version of the Iron Warrior, which is published as an insert in the fifth and final issue of each term.
