Iron Man (magazine)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Iron Man Magazine is a publication which discusses bodybuilding, weightlifting, and powerlifting. It was founded in 1936 by two Alliance, Nebraska, United States natives — Peary Rader and his wife, Mabel Rader.
[edit] Pioneer publication
Iron Man was the first weight-training publication to show women training with weights — even during pregnancy. It was also the first advocate of the benefits derived from consuming foods rich in high-quality proteins, such as milk, eggs, and liquid amino acids.
The magazine was the only magazine at the time that was willing to provide a forum for Arthur Jones — creator of the Nautilus — allowing Jones to introduce a prototype of his exercise machine to the world.
In 1986, the Raders sold the magazine to John Balik, who repositioned the magazine as a hard-core bodybuilding publication.
