Irma Lair is a 13 year old teen who is going through her last year of middle shool/early high school at the Sheffield Institute and who is also a member of WITCH. She has a 7 year-old brother named Christopher Lair and Tom Lair her father, and Anna Lair her stepmother. She has light-brown slightly wavy hair, and green eyes.

Irma is a humorous and sarcastic person. She is a protagonist and is the comedic one of the group. She is kind-hearted person, as with the others, and cares about those she has relationships with. She tends to be somewhat of a leader and is known to crack jokes about almost anyone she comes in contact with. She also almost always wants to be center stage, and, depending on the person, can or can't holds grudges for long.

Irma is best friends with Hay Lin, and very good friends with Taranee, Will and Elyon. Cornelia and she are good friends, but fight too much to be categorized as best friends. (Irma sometimes calls Cornelia "Corny"). Irma is also friends with Martin, who has a crush on Irma, and although she respects (actually, more like "dislikes") him and cares about him, she does not demonstrate the same feelings back to him. She also later develops a crush on Joel Wright, who develops a crush on her, too. In the beginning of the story, she had a crush on a boy called Andrew Hornby, and she accidentaly turns him into a toad. The girls later find him and Irma has to kiss him to turn him back into a boy. Her mother died when in a car wash.

Irma Lair is the Guardian of Water. She can control water, but she can't create it, ("I can't just create it out of thin air!") she has also been seen to control other forms of water, such as watercolour paints.

Irma's other powers were discovered at the same time as she found out she could control water in the bathtub. She can change the colour of her fabric, by creating an orb of blue light to change it. She can also create psychic blasts to mildly control peoples thoughts and actions. Irma can also change the physical appearance of people. (She turns Martin invisible and Andrew Hornby into a toad.)
