Irayimman Thampi

Irayimman Thampi(Malayalam: ഇരയിമ്മന് തമ്പി ) was a famous Carnatic musician as well as a music composer from Kerala, India. He was a vocalist in the court of Swathi Thirunal. His compositions are still considered extremely popular and are sung by Malayalees all around the world.

[edit] Early Life
Born as Ravi Varman Thampi in 1783 to Kerala Varma Thampuran and Parvathi Pillai Thankachi, both of whom were from royal lineage, Thampi received his early lessons in Music from his father himself. It is said that at the age of fourteen, he wrote a Sanskrit Sloka (verse) and earned appreciation from Maharaja Karthika thirunal, the then ruler of Travancore.[1]
