Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) is an advocacy group comprised of active duty military and Iraq War veterans who are opposed to the U.S. occupation of Iraq. The organization advocates Immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces in Iraq; Reparations for the destruction and corporate pillaging of Iraq so that ordinary Iraqi people can control their own lives and future; and Full benefits, adequate healthcare (including mental health), and other supports for returning servicemen and women.

The group was founded in 2004 at a Veterans for Peace annual convention in Boston by Kelly Dougherty and six co-founders, including Mike Hoffman, Tim Goodrich, and Alex Ryabov [1]. Dougherty spent 10 months in Iraq as a member of the Colorado National Guard with the 220th Military Police Company in southern Iraq, near the city of An Nasariyah.

The membership is made of military personnel, recent veterans, active duty servicemen and women from all branches of military service, National Guard members and reservists, who have served since September 11, 2001.
