Ioannis Alevras (1912-1995) was a Greek socialist politician who served as Chairman of the Greek Parliament.
Alevras defended Andreas Papandreou during his trial in the Aspida affair and had been in jail during the Greek military junta of 1967-1974 for resisting it. He was elected Speaker of the Greek Parliament in 1981, 1985 and in 1993. In 1985 after President Constantine Karamanlis resigned, Alevras served as acting President, per the relevant provisions of the Greek Constitution, causing a controversy over the matter if his duties as Speaker should be suspended during his tenure as acting President (March 10–March 30, 1985) and if he was eligible to vote in the election of the new President. The issue became all the more controversial, as Christos Sartzetakis was elected with the minimum number of votes required (180 out of 300) and would have had failed to be elected, were it not for Alevras' own vote. Alevras died in 1995 while still a Member of the Parliament.
