Io Isabella International Film Week

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Festival is inspired by the life and work of Isabella Morra, who was a Renaissance poetess in 16th Century Italy. At the age of 26, Isabella died at the hand of her brothers, who sentenced her guilty of having an independent nature, an “inappropriate” professional ambition and a rumored relationship with a married Spanish aristocrat.

Io, Isabella International Film Week is the first Film Festival in the South of Italy, and the third in Italy, devoted the work made by and about women and to Documentary cinema. On a yearly basis the Festival offers a selection of recent films of all lengths and genres, and a series of talkshows where the film professionals can meet with each other and audience members. There are also a number of side-events such as exhibitions and parties where the work of VJs is featured. The film programme is divided into 2 main sections: a competition exclusively devoted to films by and about women, and a section devoted to Documentaries. There are also 3 satellite programmes which are subject to change year by year; one of the side programmes always features a "Country in Focus".

The First edition of the Festival was held in Isabella's home, the Castle of Valsinni in the South of Italy, from 25th to 31st of August 2005.

The second edition took place in Maratea from 25th to 30th of July 2006.
