InvisionFree (also known as IF[1]) is one of the largest free Internet forum hosting companies (with an Alexa traffic rating of 174 as of November 6, 2006 [1]). Founded in September, 2002[2], it uses a modified version of the Invision Power Board (IPB) 1.3[3] forum software. It was established and currently led by Brandon Kopetzky in Bowie, Maryland[4].

According to its terms of service, Invision does not restrict forums on the basis of post, topic, or member number, nor bandwidth, nor will forums be deleted for inactivity[5]. Google AdSense is the site’s main source of revenue, however users may purchase ad removal[6], as well as increased file space for uploads[7].

Limitations of Invision include the lack of FTP access and editing restrictions, as the software is remotely hosted.

Software Development

In an official announcement, Zathyus Networks notified all members that a new name had been given to InvisionFree, ZetaBoards[8]. Formerly known as InvisionFree 2.0 (IF 2.0), ZetaBoards is an upcoming upgrade for InvisionFree forums that will enable customers to switch their forum's current Invision Power Board 1.3 software to software which is not based on IPB and instead, is built from scratch.[9]

Brandon, the owner of ZetaBoards, has described ZetaBoards as:

ZetaBoards is an all-encompassing upgrade that will take the place of InvisionFree's service. ZetaBoards features enhanced moderation, automatic protections against spam bots, a post search, a new PM system, and an enhanced skinning system, as well as many more new features and enhancements.

ZetaBoards is currently undergoing a private beta with selected members of the support forums. It has been said that a public beta will follow.[10]
