Talk:Interstate 285
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As you may have noticed, there are 3 roads, exits 28-30, that have names that suggest 2 communities that they go between, but guess what?? There is no Ashford. How often are roads named illogically (they say they go between 2 communities, only one of which exists)?? 66.245.94.89 01:04, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Do we know there's no archaic community of Ashford? You used to have to strain to find the Macedonia side of Cary-Macedonia Road; I think the whole road has been taken over by Walnut Street now. —C.Fred (talk) 04:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Atlanta Bypass
Is there any extant signage on the interstates approaching Atlanta that refers to it as the Atlanta Bypass? I know thee signs used to call it that, but I'm thinking those signs are long gone. —C.Fred (talk) 04:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- I seem to recall such signage still existing on I-85 northbound approaching I-285 on the south side as of about three weeks ago; I can't be 100 percent certain, though. —Pedriana 05:12, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Signage does exist on Interstates 75 and 85 approaching the Perimeter -- I believe that it may refer to it as such on the east side of town on I-20 as well, but I'm not 100 percent sure of that. --Mhking 16:41, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Exit list: shields for the unsigned routes?
I've got no problem with Georgia 400 having its shield shown in the exit list, since it's signed that way. But what about the interstates? No SR 401 shield appears on I-75, so I don't think it makes sense to have it in the exit list. Does anybody else agree? —C.Fred (talk) 22:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd be inclined to agree with you there. But as far as determining whether a route is unsigned for the purpose of displaying its shield, something else we should consider: is it enough that the route is signed along the road it follows, or should it actually be signed from the interstate? Take the Bankhead Highway exit on the west side, for instance, which carries US 78, US 278, and S.R. 8. All of those are signed along the road itself, but last time I checked there was no S.R. 8 shield on the Big Green Signs on I-285. Should we include its shield here anyway? (I personally would say yes.) –Pedriana 01:43, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm referring to 401, 403, 413, etc. All of those 400-series roads do not have a Georgia shield on them. The only place you see those shields are the online mapping services. :) 400 and 410 are signed, so I can agree with them being listed. —C.Fred (talk) 02:35, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds like we're in agreement, then. And yes, the online mapping services are quite weird about that – heck, as far as I can tell, Google Maps has no knowledge of the existence of I-285; it's shown exclusively as S.R. 407 all the way around, at all zoom levels! –Pedriana 02:42, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Interstate 285 (Georgia)
This article needs to be changed to the title of this comment, since there'll be a 285 in NC as well. I'd do it, but I'm not sure how we want to handle it since I-285 (Georgia) already exists as a redirect. Anybody? --MPD01605 (T / C) 22:40, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- The North Carolina article already exists at Interstate 285 (North Carolina). --Mhking 23:07, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Once I-285 (NC) comes online—signed road with traffic on it—at that point we'll need to have this article moved to I-285 (GA) and I-285 turned into a disambiguation page. I'm not sure when to make the switch, though. Probably the thing to do is start discussion here and, if necessary, propose the page move—in both cases, the idea being to get debate and see if the editor community agrees it's time to rename. —C.Fred (talk) 23:48, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Perimeter Perez
Does anyone other than wikipedia claim his nickname is I-285? http://atlanta.creativeloafing.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A8972 for just example
[edit] JonBenet Ramsey
JonBenet Ramsey is mentioned in that the hospital she was born at can be seen from this interstate. Sure it's a piece of trivia, but is it relevant in an article about I-285? I think not. 64.203.216.146 21:39, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
