Star Trek: Intrepid

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Star Trek: Intrepid is a live action fan film (possibly a series of films) from a Dundee-based group. The first film, (which may be the only one produced, or may have sequels) titled "Heavy Lies the Crown" is currently in post-production. A trailer and blooper reel, as well as cast and character information and a forum are available on their website. Intrepid is completely filmed in Scotland, and as the title would suggest, is set on the USS Intrepid, the prototype for the Intrepid-class, the same type of vessel as the USS Voyager. Footage from Intrepid has appeared On GMTV and in Channel Four news features, and articles about the film have appeared in many newspapers, such as The Guardian and The Scotsman.

Heavy Lies the Crown is set a few years after Nemesis, and features the Federation Starfleet and the Merchant Service attempting to colonise the Charybdis Sector, a region far from the Federation's core. Characters include Commodore Aaron Prentice, Commander Daniel Hunter, Lieutenant Yanis Caed and Lieutenant S'Ceris, amongst others. This film is currently in post-production, and is to be released sometime before the end of 2006. It features both actual sets and use of green screen, at generally good quality. The exterior sequences of ships, including the titular USS Intrepid are created with CGI as opposed to models.

[edit] Bit Patterns

A sequel to HLtC, Bit Patterns is mentioned on the Intrepid Encyclopedia as:

Chiron IV was originally discovered by a pair of deep space probes, whose ultimate fate was unknown. When some wreckage is uncovered on the surface, it proves to be from one of the probes but not the other. This leads to the possibility that second probe is still in the system and, as it's a piece of history, Intrepid goes on a search. However as events prove, what happened to the probes was not benign and Intrepid is heading into danger.

[edit] Machinations

This 8 minute short is mentioned on the Intrepid encyclopedia.

[edit] Next In Line

The 15 minute long short is described on Intrepid's encyclopedia as:

The discovery of the remains of an older, abandoned colony on a nearby planet leads an Away Team into danger.

[edit] The Conviction of Demons

The description of CoD on the Intrepid Encyclopedia makes it appear as more of a direct sequel to HLtC:

While the Merchant Service prepares to make a final stand to defend the colony, Intrepid desperately hunts the one man who may hold the key to averting disaster.

[edit] Ships

Star Trek: Intrepid follows two vessels, Starfleet's Intrepid, and the Merchant Service's Ariadne.

[edit] USS Intrepid (NCC-74600)

Intrepid was the prototype of the Intrepid-class. The Intrepid was launched from Utopia Planitia Shipyards on November 12th, 2370. It can sustain Warp 9.984 for 12 hours, or Warp 9.992 for twenty minutes. It has a number of shuttlecraft, including Reyga and Nazca (Type 9 shuttles), Dathon (Type 11 shuttle), Ballard and Forest (Type 16 shuttlepods) and the Aeroshuttle Gabriel Bell. The Intrepid's dedication plaque has a quote from Arthur C. Clarke, "The only way to discover the limits of the possible, is to go beyond them into the impossible."

[edit] SS Ariadne (NAR-11402)

The second ship that Star Trek: Intrepid follows is the SS Ariadne, which (unlike the canon Intrepid-class Intrepid) is an original design from Ships of the Starfleet (volume 2). The Ariadne is a retired Starfleet ship of the Akyazi-class, now operated by the Merchant Service. She is commanded by Captain Merik, and in 2382 was assigned to the Chiron Colonial Colony in a joint effort between Starfleet and the Merchant Service to colonise Chiron IV. The science officer is Dr. Richard Garren, and the engineer Gita Nagaraj.

[edit] The Chiron Colonial Convoy

A number of ships make up the Chiron IV Colonial Colony. Most of the vessels are quite old; many are pre-TOS, and with spherical hulls bear resemblance to the Daedalus class of this era. Also in the conovoy is an old Oberth-class science ship from the TOS era. Ariadne and Intrepid were assigned to this convoy. As its name might suggest, the goal of the Chiron Colonial Colony was to successfully colonise the planet of Chiron IV, on the fringes of Federation space. However, the convoy ran into a few problems in the form of the alien race known as the Surai in the attempt.

[edit] Captain Talath

Interestingly, the Andorian captain of Intrepid, Talath has not been shown on any images, nor on any of the trailers. The staff of Intrepid have mentioned that, "There is a reason for this which will become apparent eventually." We have two quotes from Talath, one which is heard in the trailer for Heavy Lies the Crown, and the other which is quoted on the Intrepid Encyclopedia.

  • "...The helm isn't responding, I'm going to try and....."
  • "There is a world of difference between pushing buttons and flying, Mister Hunter."
