Into The Groove is a hit single recorded by Madonna, written by her and Stephen Bray, and released in 1985 (on the B-side of the "Angel" 12" maxi-single in the USA - as an A-side on the rest of the world) . It appeared in the movie Desperately Seeking Susan and was included on the later European re-issue of the Like A Virgin album. The song became one of her signature hits and record stores in the States actually had to put up signs to tell consumers that the song was available on the "Angel" maxi-single.

To date it is still one of her best selling singles in the UK (having sold in excess of 766,000 copies) and was at number one in the UK charts for 4 weeks, while the re-release of "Holiday" was at number two and "Crazy For You" was in the lower regions of the top 40. The song was the third biggest UK seller of 1985 behind Jennifer Rush's "The Power of Love" and "I Know Him So Well" by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson. Madonna indicated that she wrote the song while a Latin boy was waiting to take her out on a date. It has also been suggested that the song (with lyrics like, "At night I lock the doors where no one else can see" and "I'm tired of dancing here all by myself/Tonight I want to dance with someone else") is about masturbation.
Madonna performed "Into the Groove" on The Virgin Tour, on the Who's That Girl World Tour in 1987 and on the Blond Ambition Tour. She also performed it on her Live Aid performance in 1985.
She re-tailored the song in 2003, with a remix called "Into the Hollywood Groove", which replaces the first verse of "Into the Groove" with the first verse of "Hollywood." The chorus is also slightly altered. It also features a rap by Missy Elliott. This version of the song was used for a Gap ad featuring the pair of them in Gap jeans in the summer of 2003. This version can also be found in the 2003 Madonna EP 'Remixed and Revisited' and was also used in Madonna's 2004 Re-Invention Tour.

In 2003, the music of "Into the Groove" was combined with the vocals of Dannii Minogue from her third and final single off her album Neon Nights, "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling", the mix is called "Don't Wanna Lose This Groove".Dannii Minogue was worldwide the first artist that sampled legally Madonna.The song was based on Into The Groove's instrumentation and it had only a small vocal sample from Madonna,the rest was based on "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" vocals that their pitch was raised so they could fit with the song.
Mandy Savoy released a cover of Into The Groove as a single in 2003.
