International Showdown was a professional wrestling event held by The Wrestling Channel on March 19, 2005 to coincide with the channel's first year anniversary. The show was unique in that it featured wrestlers from the different promotions shown on the channel all appearing together under one roof. Selected wrestlers also appeared at other promotions across Europe for the International Showdown Weekend.

International Showdown Fan Convention
Jumpin Jaks, Coventry, England

Hosted by legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter and the International Showdown ring announcer John Atkins, the covention included interviews and a Q&A session with the like of Mick Foley, CM Punk, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels. Also on hand was many of the other wrestlers that would be appearing later on tonight at International Showdown.

Aviv Maayan, Jack Xavier & Ross Jordan vs. Mark Sloan, Stevie Knight & Stixx

A tag team match held before the show with six wrestlers from the Frontier Wrestling Alliance promotion.

Result: Aviv Mayaan over Mark Sloan via pinfall

[edit] Cruiserweight Fatal Four-way Match

Chris Sabin vs. Jonny Storm vs. Petey Williams vs. Spud

The first match was a four-corners match between former TNA X Division Champion Chris Sabin (replacing Sonjay Dutt), former TNA X-Division Champion Petey Williams, the only XPW European Champion in history, Jonny Storm and up-and-coming British wrestler Spud. The match contained plenty of high-flying and technical action, including a Tower of Doom where Petey and Sabin back suplexed Storm off the second rope, while Storm superplexed Spud off the top rope. Williams won the match when he hit Sabin with his Canadian Destroyer finisher. All men raised each other's hand after the match.

Result: Petey Williams defeated Chris Sabin via pinfall

Steve Grey vs. Mal Sanders

The second match was Steve Grey vs Mal Sanders, and was held under Traditional British Rules, meaning that there are rounds. The two wrestlers were common on the cult World of Sport television show, now repeated on The Wrestling Channel. After a match that looked like we had gone back to 1980's British wrestling, Steve Grey won after a running crossbody in the fourth round.

[edit] Interlude: Apter's Alley

This segment was Apter's Alley with Bill Apter, arguably wrestling's most famous journalist. Apter was to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to former WWE World Champion, Mick Foley. Greg Lambert, a British journalist, interrupted and introduced the FWA Heavyweight Champion, Alex Shane. Shane - who would be competing later that night - ordered Apter to present him the award when Mick Foley came down to the ring. Foley was insulted by Shane, but when Foley suggested they settled this, Shane ran off. Apter presented the award to Foley, and Foley went to the back. While the crowd was clapping, Shane ran through the crowd and gave Apter a crippling lowblow. Foley ran back to the ring to help Apter, and vowed revenge.

[edit] The Ring of Honor Rivalry Continues Match

Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk (Sponsored by Warren & Lee Powell)

The third match was between future ROH World Champion CM Punk and the possesor of the longest title reign in history of the ROH World Title, Samoa Joe. After some hard-hitting wrestling, including Joe diving through the ropes and to the outside with a topé suicida, Joe eventually won the match with his Muscle Buster.

Result: Samoa Joe defeated CM Punk via pinfall

[edit] Six-man Intercontinental Tagteam Match

Mitsuharu Misawa, Tiger Emperor & Yoshinari Ogawa vs. Doug Williams, James Tighe & Scorpio

The next match was an intercontinental six-man tagteam match, more or less a Pro Wrestling NOAH contest as all but one of the competitors compete for the Japanese promotion. On one team was the first-ever GHC World Champion Mitsuharu Misawa, former GHC World Champion Yoshinari Ogawa and up-and-coming Japanese wrestler Tiger Emperor. They faced up-and-coming British wrestler James Tighe, and the then-GHC Tag Champions, Scorpio and Doug Williams. The Westerners won the match when Williams pinned Emperor with his Chaos Theory finisher.

[edit] Raven's Rules Match

Raven vs. Alex Shane

This match was to be held under "Raven's Rules", and the combatants were Alex Shane and future NWA World Champion Raven. After some hardcore fury, including Shane falling off a 15-foot balcony, Foley interfered in the match, locking Shane in his Mandible Claw, and then turning him to Raven, who planted Shane with the Raven Effect DDT, getting the 1-2-3. Foley and Raven celebrated the match afterwards.

Result: Raven defeated Alex Shane via pinfall

[edit] TNA X Division Championship Match

Christopher Daniels (C) vs. A.J. Styles

This TNA X-Division title match was between the then-champion Christopher Daniels and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, A.J. Styles. After a serious contender for a 5-star match spot, Styles was able to plant Daniels with the Styles Clash but only got a two-count. Daniels later executed the Last Rites, winning the match. Afterwards, both men shook hands, in a perfect way to end the event.

Result: Christopher Daniels defeated A.J. Styles via pinfall to retain the TNA X Division Championship
