[edit] History

ISC was founded in 1959. It is a private, non-profit, co-educational institution enrolling around 450 students from Toddler through Grade 12. ISC is an independent college preparatory school offering an American and Brazilian curriculum as well as the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. ISC is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the U.S. and by the Paraná State Department of Education in Brazil.

Although named as an "International" school, the institution mainly follows an American method of teaching. Portuguese class is required on all grade levels, and Brazilian History and Geography (BHG), given in Portuguese, is taken until reaching the 10th grade.

[edit] Demographics

Students at the school come from a variety of countries, including (as of 2005):

Brazilian: 55%
American: 12%
French: 8.5%
Japanese 5%
Colombian: 3.5%
British: 3%
German: 2%
Argentine: 1.5%
Mexican: 1.5%
Dutch: 1.2%
Spanish: 1.2%
Swedish: 1%

There are also students from many other countries, however the percentile for each is less than 1%. They include Italy, Chile, Canada, Peru, Belgium, Guatemala, Indonesia, Israel, Bolivia, Australia, and Denmark.

ISC is currently on two separate campuses, one for only the youngest students.

[edit] Organizations

At the High School level, various clubs and activities are offered, including Model United Nations, Stuco (Student Council), Adopt-A-School, Drama, Knowledge Bowl and various sporting events.

The school mascot is a wildcat.

[edit] Current Situation

At the end of the 2005/2006 academic year, the school has found itself in a difficult position with financial cutbacks resulting due to the confusing integration with the local French school.

[edit] Expansion

ISC currently has an unfinished campus, and it is unclear when many of the promised buildings (gym, elementary school, library) will be completed. As of June 2006, no construction was taking place.
