International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas

The International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) (founded 1977) is an agroforestry institution that is based in Aleppo in Syria. It is one of sixteen global agricultural research centres which makes up the global network known as the CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research). The Centre conducts research in agriculture in the desert regions of the Middle East and the Sahara desert of Northern-Central Africa to develop a more sustainable and productive land use and to reduce the impacts of desertification. It is currently chaired by Dr Guido Gryseels
