International Ballet Studio

The International Ballet Studio was established in the early 1960's by Andrea Karlsen and Paul Maure after their prominent careers with The Grand Ballet de Marquis de Cuevas company.

Establishing a professional as well as semi-professional companies and schools, Ballet des Arts, its dancers presented classical and neo-classical works utilizing talent from the La Canada, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Montrose, La Jolla, Los Angeles and Southern California areas.

Madame Andrea Karlsen, born in 1930, was a ballerina with the Marquis de Cuevas company from 1949—1962. Trained directly by Bronislava Nijinska, sister to Vaslav Nijinsky, she was a true link to the Cecchetti style. Paul Maure, born 1926 in Marsielle France, who receive the "First Legends of Dance Award" on March 8th at the Torrance, California, Cultural Arts Center; Mr. Maure was a fellow student of Maurice Béjart, director of one of France's most prominent dance companies.
