International Association of Privacy Professionals
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), headquartered in York, Maine, is an American association of privacy and security professionals. With more than 2,000 individual and corporate members, the IAPP seeks to define and support the profession of privacy by being a forum for interaction, education and discussion across industries.
Originally constituted as the Privacy Officers Association (POA) in 2000, it became the International Association of Privacy Officers (IAPO) in 2002 when the POA merged with a competing group, the Association of Corporate Privacy Officers (ACPO). In 2003, the group was renamed to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) to reflect a broadened mission to include the rapidly growing ranks of corporate personnel, beyond the position of Chief Privacy Officer, engaged in privacy-related tasks.
The IAPP offers accreditation for privacy professionals under the "Certified Information Privacy Professional" program.
