[edit] History
In 1996 political science students from Leiden, The Netherlands visited colleagues in Rome, Italy. At this meeting the idea of an international association for students in political science was discussed. In 1998 the first General Assembly of what would come to be known as IAPSS was held in Leiden, The Netherlands and the association was incorporated under Dutch law in that year.
By the end of 1999 IAPSS had grown to encompass 20 member associations from 15 countries across Europe and Africa. By 2001 IAPSS had gained member associations from most European states as well as South Africa, Tanzania, Russia and Puerto Rico. Today IAPSS has member associations from more than 40 countries worldwide and individual members from even more.
