Institute of Leadership & Management
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) is Europe’s largest awarding body for leadership and management qualifications. It is also a professional membership body for leaders and managers — providing a wide range of career support services to members.
ILM qualifications are practically based, designed to complement the individual’s role at work. Aligned to the UK’s National Qualifications Framework (NQF), ILM qualifications begin at level 2, such as the ILM Certificate in Team Leading, and continue right up to level 7, such as the ILM Executive Diploma in Management. NVQs are also available including the Level 5 NVQ in Management. Other specialist qualifications cover skills in volunteer management, business start-up, coaching, and personnel management. All ILM qualifications have been accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
Membership of ILM is open to leaders and managers of all levels. Grades start with studying membership — for individuals taking ILM qualifications, to Fellowship — for senior executives. Members receive a wide range of services to help with their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) including access to e-books, e-courses, events, and specialist management help.
[edit] History
ILM was formed in November 2001 through the merger of the Institute of Supervisory Management (ISM) and NEBS Management. It is an organisation within the City & Guilds Group but has independent awarding body status. Based in London, ILM approves a network of centres worldwide to deliver its qualifications.
