Institute for Astronomy

The Institute for Astronomy (IfA) is a research unit within the University of Hawaii system, led by Dr. Rolf-Peter Kudritzki as Director. IfA main headquarters are located at 2680 Woodlawn Drive in Honolulu, Hawaii; additional facilities are located at Kula, Maui and Hilo on the Big Island. IfA employs over 150 astronomers and support staff. IfA astronomers are at the cutting edge of research into solar system objects, stars, galaxies and cosmology.

In addition to conducting research, IfA manages observatory complexes at Haleakala, Maui and Mauna Kea on the Big Island. These sites are some of the finest in the world for astronomical observing.
