Instinctive Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Gurdjieff's Fourth Way teachings, one of the Centers.

It corresponds to the physical body and the Way of the Fakir and with the pratice of Hatha yoga, i.e. raising consciousness to a higher level by means of the body.

Some (but not all) Fourth Way schools sub-divide this Center into three components.

The Moving Center may also refer to this Center as a whole.

The person dominated by this Center, Gurdjieff referred to as Man Number One or Instinctive Man and, in common with those dominated by their False Emotional or False Intellectual Center, as in a state of "waking sleep".

[edit] Correspondences

In the theory of multiple intelligences it corresponds to a range of skills. In terms of the triune brain theory it may correspond to the R-complex. An alternate interpretation might identify it with the parasympathetic nervous system.
