Insektors

Insektors was a 1994 animated TV series about a war between two tribes of anthropomorphic insects, the Joyces (an airborne, brightly coloured race) and the Yuks (a dank, dark race fixated on keeping their furnaces burning in order to survive). Made in a small studio, Fantome, in France, it was the 1994 recipient of a "Children and Young People" Emmy Award. It was directed by Georges LaCroix and Renato, and written by Eric Rondeaux, Véronique Herbaut and Marc Perrier.
The TV series was originally in French. It was then dubbed into two English language releases; one for North America, and one for the UK.
The North American version was faithful to its original French roots; using the original names and dialogue. It was first aired on Canadian television on YTV.
The UK version, however, was completely different. The original script was re-written; characters had different names, and different dialogue was used. References and jokes were added in for those who are familiar with England.
The two versions of the show are both enjoyable to watch, and each are a unique experience.
Other versions of the show are being reported, as well, two of them being Spanish and Portuguese.

[edit] The Joyces [Verigreens, UK Version]
Fulgor [Flynn, UK version] The protagonist of the series. Raised by Godfrey from a young age. He wields the Kolour Guitar which fires colour pollen bombs and also doubles as an electric guitar. During the second season of the series, it is revealed that he is, in fact, not a Verigreen but a Krud; the son of the Krud mystic and technician Magus, whose beliefs and disgust at the Krud caused him to fake his death before fleeing deep underground and long before the series' beginning. He sent Flyn to the land of the Verigreens in the hopes that they would take him in so that he would not grow up like the other Kruds. Flyn is reunited with Magus, who joins him in the land of the Verigreens, during the final episode of the series.
Aelia [Alex, UK version) Daughter of The Great Pyro, making her essentially an adopted sister to Fulgor. She doesn't appear to have as large of a grudge against the Yuks as the others. Helps tend to the Great Prism.
The Great Pyro [Godfrey, UK version] Ruler of Flower City as well as Aelia's father. Slightly eccentric, he tends to the Great Prism. Voiced by Neil McCaul (UK version).
Daltonio [Bentley, UK version] An assistant to The Great Pyro.
Gallopus [Peg, UK version] Helps Fulgor get around and is also his best friend. Not speaking, he communicates in honks and can run at great speeds as well as fly. A creation of Eurekas (Magus, UK version], it was in his storage space that Fulgor was smuggled into Flower City. Voiced by Anthony Jackson (UK version].
Spotty [Elmo, UK version] Another machine like Gallopus that has a spotlight in its stomach, also communicating with other noises. Tends to hang around Aelia.

Queen Bakrakra [Queen Catheter, UK version] Always complaining to Lord Krabo and her son, Prince Acylius. She's ashamed of her son and his constant yearning to be a Joyce. Her husband is unknown. Voiced by Caroline Bliss (UK version).
Lord Krabo [Draffsack, UK version] Grouchy and stressed, he is Acylius's tutor, the Prime Minister and second-in-command. Having Kretinus at his disposal, he acts on his hatred for the Joyces. He secretly lusts to overthrow Queen Bakrakra so he can stop being second best. Voiced by Lee Cornes (UK version).
Lord Teknocratus [Sinapse, UK version] Calm and easy-going, he is the chief engineer of the Yuks, constantly making machines to help their colony, such as a device that reverses the effects of being 'infected' with Joyce color-pollen, turning Yuks back into their dreary dark selves. One habit of his that Krabo finds particulaly anoying is his tendency to give his inventions long and complicated names which nobody can remember. Despite this he seems to be Krabo's most loyal friend aside from Kretinus, and consoles him constantly in times of desperation. He seems to take any abuse he receives about the inevitable failiure of his inventions in combat quite well, claiming "It's a tough life for a genius.". Voiced by Neil McCaul (UK version).
Kretinus [Fugg, UK version] Serves as Krabo's assistant and usually helps General Lukanus as well. He's quite clumsy and not very bright, but he does whatever he can to please his superiors. Voiced by Teddy Kempner (UK version).
General Lukanus [Wasabi, UK version] A rather arrogant Yuk who usually leads the main ambushes against the Joyces, usually accompanied by either Krentinus or Lord Krabo. Voiced by Ron Moody (UK version).
Prince Acylius [Prince Maximillian, UK version] Son of Queen Bakrakra and heir to the throne, he longs to be a Joyce, becoming friends with them, and earning their trust as well as Aelia's affection. He is unique amongst Kruds as he learned to make use of his wings and fly. Most Yuks either do not posses wings or simply do not bother learning - prefering instead to rely on clumsy machines for aerial locomotion. He and Fulgor don't really get along due to Fulgor's over-protectiveness of his sister, although he still is constantly trying to escape from Yukdom. It is through his unwitting efforts that the Great Prism is reactivated, revealing the secret history of Yuks and Joyces and that thousands of years ago, they were one and the same race. Voiced by Tim McInnerey (UK version).
General Krabouic and General Kaboche [Drumsturdy and Greeb, UK version] These two are the heads of security in Yukdom. They also function as unwilling test pilots for Teknocratus' inventions and also as elite commandos for more 'dangerous' missions into Joyce territory. Although they are of the same 'species', they couldn't have more opposite personalities. Krabouic is the taller of the two and has a commanding headstrong attitude, whereas Kaboche is smaller, more cowardly and much more cautious.
The Guards [The Methane Brothers, UK version] Two heavily armoured dung beetles who guard the entrance to the stump. Despite their imposing appearance, they are quite easily distracted and overcome. They provide a comedic element in the show with their constant philosophizing and completely care free, laid back attitude to life.
Protocol [Motormouth(?), UK version] The Yuk announcer who takes liberty in his position to addlib announcements, a man who does not know the meaning of the word fear, or the meaning of personal hygiene.
