From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Insein is a city located north of Yangon, in southern Myanmar. It is home to one of Myanmar's most infamous prisons built by the British, which houses thousands of political prisoners. Insein also contains a large marble Buddha image, called the Chaukdawgyi Paya (Lawka Chantha Abaya Laba Muni Buddha), which was brought from upper Myanmar under the direction of Khin Nyunt.
