The inscription on the column of Marcus Aurelius, Rome; own work

The inscription reads: SIXTUS V PONT MAX COLUMNAM HANC COCHLIDEM IMP ANTONINO DICATAM MISERE LACERAM RUINOSAMQ PRIMAE FORMAE RESTITUIT A M D LXXXIX PONT IV

Which translates as: "Pope Sixtus the fifth has rebuilt this mutilated and dilapidated column, unfortunately dedicated to emperor Antoninus, in it's original form, in the year 1589, the fourth year of his pontificate."
