Update progress
Welcome

This page is an archive of the discussions taken place on my talk page between 2005 September and 2005 December. This Page is no longer live.

Note: I am implementing the use of synchronised threads on my talkpage, identical to those used by Alphax. To prevent interference with the threads, please post a comment rather than use any other method. To edit the synchronised threads, just use the [edit] link at the top of each section. See thread help for more information.
If you wish to thank me for something, I appreciate it greatly. However, I rarely take the time to respond, as I am usually engaged in other activities. My apologies, and you're welcome (in advance).

[edit] Blanked pages

Looking through the Wikipedia:List_of_blank_pages, I noticed lots of Template-Arispec pages, mostly edited by you. So, rather than just going through them myself, I though I'd ask you first what they are for, and if any of them should be deleted, or instead, have explanatory messages added to them in <noinclude> tags. Thanks for your work on the 'pedia! JesseW, the juggling janitor 03:11, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

The templates are part of a set of subtemplates used for the Aircraft specifications template (see Template:Airtemp-test). Any of the subtemplates that begin with Template:Airspec- can be deleted, but those beginning with Template:Airtemp- must be retained. Ingoolemo talk 17:26, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
Ericg added notes to all the templates, (see list below), saying they are used. Please check with eim, and if any really are not used, I'd be happy to delete them; otherwise, I'm going to leave them alone. Thanks for getting back to me! JesseW, the juggling janitor 18:45, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

The list:

 • Template:Aircontent-also-no
 • Template:Aircontent-lists-no
 • Template:Aircontent-sequence-no
 • Template:Airspec-armament-no
 • Template:Airspec-avionics-no
 • Template:Airspec-capacity-no
 • Template:Airspec-engine-neither
 • Template:Airspec-loading-neither
 • Template:Airtemp-armament-no
 • Template:Airtemp-avionics-no
I have updated the list. You can delete Airspec-armament-no, Airspec-avionics-no, Airspec-capacity-no, Airspec-engine-neither, and Airspec-loading-neither, in addition to any redirects that link to them. Please do not delete any others. Ingoolemo talk 02:10, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
I've deleted the ones you suggested; what about the other Airspec ones - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Prefixindex&from=Template:Airspec - should I remove those, or not? JesseW, the juggling janitor 18:57, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
You can delete those. They are no longer in use. But remember, please do not delete the ones beginning with Airtemp-. Thanks, Ingoolemo talk 21:03, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
They are gone. If there's anything else you need cleaned up, just let me know. JesseW, the juggling janitor 06:18, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The charter is here. (Relating to Esperanza)

Hello Ingoolemo, the Charter for Esperanza is up. Take a looksie :) Redwolf24 (talk) 02:50, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza made less bureaucratic

Hello again, I have (unilatterly) taken away the 'assembly' idea, as per my reasons at that edit summary and per Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Charter. I have left the admin general, as some leadership is good. Now, all you have to do is be a member to establish consensus, the whole assembly idea is gone. Also, I have added an advisory committee, of four members, with limited power besides watching over the admin general and making sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Please look at the ammended charter, and I would love a comment. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:15, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The last time I'm spamming you all with Esperanza stuff

Hello Ingoolemo. As you may or may not know, there have been some troubles with Esperanza. So now, as a last ditch to save the community, please vote at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Reform on all neccisary polls. P.S. I'm very sorry for spamming you all with these messages, and this will be the last time. I recommend putting ESP on your watchlist. Cheers and please look at that, let's stop the civil war then. Redwolf24 (talk) 02:45, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Interstate maps

Thanks, I'm not quite perfectly happy with them yet, but they will do for now. I did take your encouragement and made another dozen or more for the bigger interstates I had skipped. I have plenty other things to do, with about 400 more red-dot maps of Indiana towns sitting on my computer waiting to be uploaded and pasted on pages, which I have been avoiding. But I am taking other smaller map requests (like that Chicago highways project map on my talk page) to change things up a bit. - Marvin01 | talk 05:13, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] You counted?!

You actually counted the vandalism...? What a mind-numbingly silly thing to do! :) But I appreciate the gesture (and hey I got another one today). Sadly, no one has yet taken me up on the heroic epic offer, perhaps I'll change it. Usually I would have replied faster but I'm on a little break. So, well it's always cool to see someone sign my ever-growing list. Nice to meet you. Have a good day and spread the Wikilove (or whack a vandal). PS, *sob* I thought I had a message when I saw that happy orange box loading at the top of the page. Dmcdevit·t 06:41, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your aircraft specs template has been nominated for deletion

I have nominated Template:Aircraft-jet-mil for deletion, because Ericg and I have developed another template for use by the project. We're putting the finishing touches on it, and should present it to the WikiProject in a week or so. Thanks, Ingoolemo talk 04:30, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Our thread

I know you've been busy, but I really need your responses on the latest stuff I've added to our thread. Please reply here. Feel free to remove this section once you've read it. Ingoolemo talk 03:35, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

I have moved Template:Airtemp-test to Template:Airtemp, because I think we're just about ready to present it to the WikiProject. The last snag is the matter of ² mentioned above. I'm willing to go along with whatever you choose to do, but please consider my comments above, and additionally that ft² yields ft², not ft². Once we're through that snag, we'll be ready to present the template. Ingoolemo talk 23:24, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
Either is fine with me; i was working on the theory that the less editors need to input the better - and that chances are, people might forget the ². In this case, though, go ahead and make it user input rather than template. -ericg 00:43, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Awesome! I think we have a completely developed template. Unless there's anything else that needs to be done, drop me a line and let me know that I can go ahead and present our template to the WikiProject. Awesome work on this template! Ingoolemo talk 18:05, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Looks like we're good to go. :D ericg 16:47, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Patrickneil

Yeah, it should be my user profile. Just that when I clicked my name it made that site, so I went ahead and edited it.

[edit] Moscow images

Thanks for purging Moscow of all those junk images. Would you mind also taking a look at the images at Yerevan, some of which are tagged for speedy? Alr 21:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Did you archived the images anywhere? I will try to email the author.--Nixer 21:06, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

You can attempt to relocate them at Wikipedia:Lost images. Please make sure that the author is willing to provide the images under a license that is compatible with our copyright policy.

Why did you delete the image that was really free? I mean the winter Moscow--Nixer 21:08, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Several other images you uploaded were not actually free, so I assumed that the winter Moscow image also wasn't. Because you did not include a source link in the image description page, I had no way to test my hypothesis. When and if you reupload it, please be sure to include a hyperlink to the website you got it from.

Why did you deleted the triumphal arch, which I got from another Wikipedia article?--Nixer 21:16, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

The triumphal arch was eligible for deletion under our policy. It was added to the other article in error.
I'm sorry I had to delete this images, but copyright issues are a very important problem for Wikipedia. If we are too lax in enforcing copyright policy, we could be slapped with a lawsuit, which would cause massive damage to the project. Thanks for your time, Ingoolemo talk 21:25, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Electronic use only

Is any purpose electronic use only license compatible with Wikipedia?--Nixer 08:38, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I'm afraid not. The way I understand it, content must be available for any purpose in any medium of distribution. Ingoolemo talk 08:41, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

First I vandalised your page, then I reverted it. What do I get for that?  :) Ingoolemo talk 08:08, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I suppose you get a, "Thank you very much, but sadly I'll have to hunt you and your family down one by one." (WP:NPA doesn't apply to cromulent vandals) I must say you have the oddest messaging system I have even seen (a help page and everything). Broken S 02:38, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
But perhaps the oddest aspect of it: I didn't invent it! There are actually multiple people who use it! Now that is whacked. Cheers, Ingoolemo talk 01:18, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Advisory Committee election deadline set

Our new admin general, Essjay, has set the date for the advisory committee elections, that date being October 7th. By UTC it is October 5th right now. So see WP:ESP/E for voting in two days, and add yourself to the list if you're interested in running. On a personal note, I'm considering running, as I only resigned as admin general because of time. I'm sure I could help out on the advisory committee... Anywho, watchlist that page, and be sure to read the voting method too. Regards, Redwolf24 (talk) 01:09, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aircontent template linebreaks FIXED!

(I think :D). I added

<p style="display:inline;"></p>

to each -no template, which causes the line to be rendered in the previous line. This has, as far as I can tell, fixed any and all line-breaking issues (at least in Safari and Firefox). Might be of use to us in the airtemp, might not, but now you know. ;D ericg 00:23, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted Neleh Dennis

I was just wondering why the article I created for her was deleted. She was a runner-up in an early season of Survivor, and probably deserves an article more than some contestants who still have them. There might have been a little too much information, but I thought I did a pretty good, accurate job on the article, and she was an important enough player to have one. It had been voted for deletion earlier, but my guess is that the earlier article had far less content.

I hope you'll reconsider this decision and reinstate the article, even if it involves the deletion of some material.

Thank you. If the formal request for undeletion is required, I understand. Please advise, as I worked hard on the article and did my best to make it as accurate as possible.

If there is no article for her, I suggest that other articles for certain Marquesas contestants (like Paschal English) would also be candidates.

A user in Boulder, CO

128.138.42.228 22:31, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

I got your message--thanks for the attention. I have looked at all the policies and procedures for undeletion, including the page with submitted candidates. I can't figure out how to make a nomination for undeletion, since there is no add link on the page. I even did something I have been meaning to do for a while and created an account. How do I make a new post/nomination for undeletion? I just couldn't figure out how to add a thread.

The logic for undeletion of this article is very strong. She was a runner-up in a very competitive season and a memorable player. Her loss to a very unpopular winner was controversial. The deletion of the article (not even considering my work, and the fact that it was more professional and better-looking than many existing articles on Survivor contestants), makes her the only Survivor runner-up to not have an article and also the only listed member of the template/table "Survivors who were never voted off" (which appears at the bottom of all of these entries--see Paschal English for example) not to have an article. I'd like to say all of this in a nomination, but I just don't know how to add it. Can you help me? I hope you can see why this deletion doesn't make sense to me in the light of her similarity (and even greater importance in some cases) to contestants who do have articles. I'm sorry to clutter your talk page with this, and I hope you can help me.

[edit] Esperanza Spam

Hello Esperanzians! A few announcements.

The Advisory Committee election results are in. In tranch A are Acetic Acid and Flcelloguy. In tranch B are Ryan Norton and Bratsche.

My other annoouncement is that our founder, JCarriker, has founded Esperanza's sister project, Wikipediology. I have written two essays here (my name is Matt Binder). My essays are under Teenage Wikipedians and Anon Editors.

On behalf of myself and Jay Carriker and the other wikipediologists, I would appreciate it if you were to join.

Cheers Esperanza! Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:32, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Islamist terrorism

Hello Ingoolemo, I didn't understand neither your edit, nor your comment on your reverting edit in this article [1], so I fixed the interwiki-link again, see [2]. Perhaps a misunderstanding? Have a nice day --Rax 19:36, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I seem to remember that incident. For some reason, when I checked the diff, it seemed to indicate that the German interwiki link had been removed. I reverted the removal—or so I thought. My apologies. Ingoolemo talk 20:53, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply - best wishes --Rax 22:46, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Leah Sanderson

Hello: Sorry to bother you, but I sent this article up for speedy, which you appropriately carried out (in my opinion). It has been promptly reposted along with several related articles by ISP User: 60.231.98.119 and User: Chinatown gloss. I'll do the foot work of listing for AfD, but this sort of thing gets tiresome quickly, so I am hoping you will keep an eye as well. Thanks. Gaff ταλκ 07:16, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

 • BTW: Note that you closed the AfD discussion on this article after your speedy. Not sure how to handle that. Thanks.Gaff ταλκ 07:25, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Gone already...see also Jon Hames.Gaff ταλκ 07:25, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
I am working on the cleanup process. Because I had previously deleted Leah Sanderson, it can be redeleted on site. Reposting deleted content is generally considered vandalism. I have advised the editor to go to WP:VFU if they wish to protest the deletion. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers, Ingoolemo talk 07:28, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
For the second AFDing of an article, use Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ARTICLE 2, and include a link to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ARTICLE and an explanation of why you feel this article should be nominated for deletion a second time around. Ingoolemo talk 07:35, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Knowleadge seeker impostor block

Hello,

When there are two or more blocks of different duration, then when the shortest block expires, all blocks are removed. So if you block for a month and then indefinitely, it's only blocked for a month. The cumbersome workaround is to unblock first (which removes all blocks) and then reapply the desired block. -- Curps 14:41, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] What has changed?

Lueshi had a successful VfD a year ago. Nothing has changed since that VfD; sure, it's been unbanned from GameFAQs, but that's more applicale for the GameFAQs message board in my opinion. Hbdragon88 03:52, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Things have changed: the current article is quite a bit more comprehensive than the deleted versions, and is thus not really suitable for speedying. If you still want it deleted, you'll have to go through the AFD process instead. Ingoolemo talk 04:19, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Bah, I thought it oculd be speeded merely because it is non-notable. Submitted to AFD. Hbdragon88 04:52, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bounty

Well, this might not fit exactly into your request at Wikipedia:Bounty board, but I just added two more public domain images to the featured article Convair B-36. One of the PD images already there was also uploaded by me. Do I get your $5 bounty? Ingoolemo talk 20:51, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Since the article was already featured and already entirely illustrated with free images, no. --Carnildo 22:26, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright

Hi, Ingoolemo. I wanted to let you know that the speedy delete criteria for copyright violations only applies to commercial content providers, meaning companies who are selling the content being copied, like an encyclopedia, not using the content to sell something else. For example, Michael Hallahan is an actor and his website may help his career, but he isn't selling the content on it. The criteria was limited to commercial content providers because such companies are very unlikely to give permission for their content to be used. However, other businesses may release their content, especially when the article is about them, in exchange for the advertising they get. Thanks, Kjkolb 06:59, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

However, it was also a recreation of deleted content, and a potential nn-bio. Ingoolemo talk 07:02, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
I wasn't implying that the article should not have been deleted for other reasons, just that it doesn't qualify as a commercial content provider. Thanks, Kjkolb 07:06, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
Okay. Ingoolemo talk 20:58, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ousmanou

Please, do not erase the website of Ousmanou Yakoubou. It is fiction, and I will gladly label it as such. However, it is a story that was made by several of us in our youth when we were back in school in the course of many years. I put it in wikipedia so that other old classmates who might come across it can add to it, since it we had much much more than what I remember or care to write. I'd really appreciate it if you would not delete it, it means a lot to many of us. Thank you, editor of Ousmanou Yakoubou page

[edit] CSD Images

Please don't tag orphaned fairuse images as CSD's unless they're ready to delete immediately. That clutters Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. Instead, use Template:Orphaned_fairuse_not_replaced or Template:Orphaned_fairuse_replaced. Thanks! — Phil Welch 04:19, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Phil. I didn't know which template to use. Ingoolemo talk 04:52, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Zondor, I very much share your concerns about advertising, but placing that template on the Talk:Wikipedia page isn't really solving the problem. [edit] your .sig

G'day Ingoolemo,

I've just been going through my watchlist, and I note that a lot of the pages on the Wikipedia: namespace are bright blue. This is because you have commented on those pages. Could you please take a look at your .sig preferences, and try to close all the tags you've opened therein? Give me a bell if you need any help with the HTML. Cheers, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 04:15, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

I recently eliminated the font colour from my signature. The problem you're having is most likely with your browser, because I don't think most people are having those problems: the old sig was <font color=blue>Ingoolemo</font <font color=blue>talk</font, so as you can see, all html tags are closed. Ingoolemo talk 04:49, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Um, I refer you to this: <font color=blue>Ingoolemo</font – because of a typo, you don't close the first FONT tag. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 04:58, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Hmm. Actually, the script above has the same typo (</font]]) in both the User page as well as the User talk page links. However, I don't think this was the problem. If you scroll up Ingelmoo's talk page, you find on Nov 8th an instance of the old sig. The text is:
<font color=blue>Ingoolemo</font> <font color=blue>talk</font> 04:19, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Note that there is no typo in the sig. However, the HTML tags in the User talk link are not nested properly. The should precede the </font>. I think that's why, when HTML Tidy went down, all the pages with that signature turned blue. encephalon 05:58, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Encephalon's explanation is the most likely, since the sig example I gave above was typed from memory, not copied from elsewhere. Ingoolemo talk 05:02, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipediology

I'd like to ask those fellows who have not indicated whether or not they grant permission for a wikibio on them to please do so soon. I'd also appreciate it everyone could expand or create the wikibios for which permission has been granted. The wikibio project simply won't be useful unless fellows actively participate; so I'd like to issue a challenge that each fellow contribute at least one sentence to two wikibios. I'll be on wikibreak for the next week and when I get back there will be prizes in store for the fellows who have the three highest edit counts on wikibios. Thanks. -JCarriker 22:44, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi; I noticed September 11 researchers had been through AfD with a recommendation to merge into 9/11 conspiracy theories. No one ever merged it, and at some point the merge tag was removed. What is the ettiquete? Should I submit it for discussion at AfD again, or put back the merge tag, or what? Tom Harrison (talk) 14:45, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

I moved the article to a subpage 9/11 conspiracy theories/September 11 researchers, and left a note at Talk:9/11 conspiracy theories explaining that the merge needed to take place. Consider the issue dealt with. Ingoolemo talk 14:57, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

I noticed that you deleted "Heuristic Squelch." I am surprised, as the research I posted to the VfD discussion showed, I believe, that the entry was indeed notable. I did not see any rebuttal to my entry in the five or so days before you deleted the entry. As I do not believe a consensus was reached, I believe we should reinstate the article. If anyone wishes to address the claims of notability, we could then work towards a consensus.

Please note, I do not have a connection to the publication, but merely have read it and am aware of its existence. --Zippy 06:26, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

I have re created the article, and submitted it for another AFD, with mention of the evidence you presented. If you wish to comment there, feel free. Cheers, Ingoolemo talk 08:52, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I must respectfully disagree with you re your speedy deletion of the Dee Brown (Illini) page. I do not believe it met the criteria. I have added some external links & the appropriate stub to the article, and have recreated it. Please let me know if you're unhappy with this. Thanks Jackk 08:00, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

I believe that the original article was a CSD, but the new one is not. However, I still don't believe that the article should be kept, so I'm going to AFD it. Nothing personal. Cheers, Ingoolemo talk 08:54, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Your response is a bit generic - "If you wish to protest a deletion, you may do so at Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion. Ingoolemo talk 08:49, 1 December 2005 (UTC)"

according to the link you reference, "Deletion Review is the process to be used by all editors, including administrators, who wish to challenge the outcome of any deletion debate or a speedy deletion unless:

 * They are able to resolve the issue in discussion with the administrator (or other editor) in question;..."

I would prefer to have a discussion with you. In what way was my entry "absolutely unencyclopedic"?

With the exception of the first sentence (which should have been trimmed to 'It is a Viennese coffeehouse'), the article was nothing more than random musings about various things related to the coffeehouse and some advice about how to avoid a tip. An encyclopedia is a collection of knowledge in a factual, organised fashion. The musings in the article are neither factual, nor verifiable, nor relevant. Furthermore, the article suffered from a lack of context (Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Articles reason 1). Ingoolemo talk 09:09, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia's definition for "encyclopedia" includes "...The encyclopedia as we recognize it today developed in the 18th century from the dictionary. A dictionary is primarily focused on words and their definition, and typically provides limited information, analysis or background for the word defined. Hence, while it may offer a definition, it may leave the reader still lacking in understanding the meaning or import of a term, and how the term relates to a broader field of knowledge.

To address those needs, an encyclopedia seeks to discuss each subject in more depth and convey the most relevant accumulated knowledge on that subject, given the overall length of the particular work..."

I believe that I have contributed relevant knowledge. In the absence of an alternative entry for the Cafe Pruckl, my entry represents the full sum of relevant accumulated knowledge on that subject.

In specific response to your challenge (of my challenge), I fear you have misread me.

1-I never discussed avoiding a tip. I gave information on how to give an appropriate tip. I have spent hundreds of hours at this cafe, over the last 15 years. I have friends and relatives who have been visiting this cafe for decades. The tipping code in Vienna ranges around 2%. Tipping more is actually received with contempt. An overtipper is quickly recognized as an ignorant tourist.

2-My musings are arguably factual. They're based on my experience of this cafe. I'm glad to discuss, with others, who have had factual experiences of this cafe, the accuracy of my observations.

3-My musings are both verifiable and relevant. They discuss the (admittedly) subjective art of having an appropriate culturally immersive experience of this cafe. That's much more relevant than simply announcing 'It is a Viennese coffeehouse'. And my entry is verifiable, simply by going to the Cafe Pruckl, and following my advice.

4-My entry was full of context. The context of the experience of the Cafe Pruckl. In contrast to *no* entry for the Cafe Pruckl, my entry is infinitely more contextual. To address your specific reference to (Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Articles reason 1), "...Limited content is not in itself a reason to delete if there is enough context to allow expansion. Google may help in determining context, though, and allow for the article's expansion."

If you have an alternative entry, or would like to work with me to create an appropriate entry for the Cafe Pruckl, I would enjoy that. From your archives, you have extensive experience with wikipedia. I was surprised and delighted to find a gap that I could fill, in wikipedia, a resource that I use regularly and respect. Thanks for your time.

Well Kris, I'm sorry to be so harsh and absolute, but I don't think that your article merits inclusion, and I probably won't change my mind. You can still submit a WP:VFU if you'd like, but the results probably won't be any different. I'm sorry. Ingoolemo talk 16:56, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
