Hi there, basic question I know, but if i choose to write an article how does it become visible in a search, does it:
(a) Get evaluated by a higher level wiki user who then somehow registers/links it so it appears if searched for...or...
(b) Is there some markup that is added to the article editing page that links it to a category etc so it will show up in a search.
- The search index is generated by a developer every couple of weeks. So it can be out-of-date, and often is. All pages are automatically added to the search index - there isn't any registration or vetting.
- There is no markup to influence the search. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, while the "Search" is often out-of-date the "Go" button should work within a couple of minutes of an article being created. But to use "Go" you need to use the exact article title.--Commander Keane 21:26, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Neither. As soon as you click on a "red link", enter some text, and save it, the article is immediately created, and any article that links to that article will have a blue link instead of a red one. (Of course, immediately really means "after a short lag due to network traffic and caching, etc. But for all reasonable amount of eye-blinks, it's immediate.) As Keane said, the search feature is updated "periodically". - UtherSRG (talk) 21:29, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello again. A week ago i created an unlinked article named "Sterns Nightclub" since then i have created the same named arcticle albeit much moree comprehensive and linked to other related pages. How can i be sure the latest version will supercede the last, can you ensure this happens? Thanks Infomonkey 03:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sterns Nightclub exists, there's no problem there. Only the most recent version is displayed. I'm not sure what you are concerned about.--Commander Keane 03:50, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

- I've checked it out too, and the history of the article suggests that it was all done today, and that there was no previous article of the same name. Also, checking your contributions, I noticed that the only other article of close to the same name is Sterns, which is a redirect to a department store article. I'm not quite sure about what you mean, but I think it should be fine. Jfingers88 03:55, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I see now. Apparently you had written your article under Sterns, but since there was a redirect above it, another editor deleted your content since it was never seen. That's what happened to your missing article, and it's already taken care of. That's the great thing about Wikipedia. Jfingers88 03:58, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
