So, I'm supposed to write a self-centered blurb about myself here, right? Well, here you go.

I'm me. Obviously. :)

My name is Mark. I was 28 years old, last time I edited this, and I live in South Lake Tahoe, California.

I'm an embedded software engineer by trade, focusing mostly on embedded Linux.

I do several things in my spare time, notably I race sailboats. I usually crew on other folks' boats; rarely am I the skipper. Notable exceptions have been campaigning a friend's Flying Dutchman dinghy, single-handing a Laser, borrowing a friend's Moore 24, and in 2007 I will begin campaigning my Santana 20. I also enjoy just cruising, though it is often difficult to organize regular cruising events. I also enjoy volunteering for Race Committee work.

Generally I can be found in the summer, racing on Lake Tahoe on a Moore 24 or Catalina 27, and in the winter, racing on the San Francisco Bay on an Olson 30 or Express 27.

In the Lake Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club events:

  • In the Tahoe Cup Series, I am on a Moore 24.
  • In the beercan races, I am usually on a Moore 24.

In the San Francisco bay:

As you can see, I am completely obsessed with air-based locomotion. I once tried land sailing on a Manta Twinjammer, hoo boy was that fun. They tend to go 2 or 3 times the speed of the wind. As you can imagine, that does astonishing things to your apparent wind.

Someday I hope to try hang gliding, paragliding and scuba diving, and to build my own submarine. I saw a paraglider outside my office window recently, who did a vertical 360 flip. I didn't know that was possible for those things, it looks awesome.

Building my own Moon or Mars colony would also a fun spare-time project.

I also involve myself in various Open Source projects. At the time of writing, most of my projects are Perl-related. I'm working to bring support for Trefunge and other N-dimensional Funges to the Language::Befunge module, I'm maintainer of Perl socket bindings for the TIPC project, and I'm working to bring the FUSE bindings up to date, with the latest API support and (long-awaited) support for Perl threads.
