Template talk:Infobox movie certificates
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why does this exist? There is already a template for film ratings, Template:Infobox Film rating. This template is one of the most obtrusive templates I have ever seen. If you want to have movie ratings, you should just use the much smaller film rating template. If you want to see why it is obtrusive just look at The Godfather (film). 160.79.140.225 17:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- This template allows linking to articles that discuss that county's ratings systems, like MPAA film rating system (although only a handful have such links currently, it's at least an option this way). Also, this listing of countries encourages editors to fill out ratings for countries that might not have been considered for being listed. -- Ned Scott 07:56, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Size
If this survives TfD this really needs to be shrunk - there is far too much whitespace, and the font might look better a little smaller. violet/riga (t) 22:18, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure I follow you on that one.. this is a hell of a lot smaller than it used to be [1], as well as it being much smaller than most infoboxes. You won't actually save any space by getting rid of the "white spaces", since the box will only be as wide as the longest country name/ rating line. I could see maybe shortening the names of the different countries, or maybe making some of them take up two rows (which.. would save horizontal space, but make it look rather ugly). Maybe you have an example of what you had in mind? -- Ned Scott 07:25, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- You're talking horizontal space - I was talking vertical space. violet/riga (t) 08:06, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

- Why not to put them in 2 columns? it would be more compact (half of the current vertical size) and as the values are always just 2-3 characters then "doubling" the width shouldn't be big issue. Same time we could change "United States" to "USA" and "United Kingdom" to "UK" as these are top longest names which have widely recognised abbreviations. --TarmoK 08:56, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] alphabetic order
Shouldn't the country names be alphabetically ordered, now it's quite a mess to find particluar country --TarmoK 08:56, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- I recommend also an alphabetical order. Now it's very time-consuming to search for a certain country. This goes for filling out the template for an article as well as for the reader of the article when there are many ratings listed.
- Also the production country of the film is usually known (from infobox or intro of the article) and can be looked up in an alphabetical list. So there is no need to put the most important (which would be the production country and major markets) countries on top.

- I've sorted all countries alphabetically now in the template and the usage code (although the sequence in the code doesn't seem to matter). It didn't work when I previewed the edit but after saving, the template has been "updated", see The Godfather, Breezy. --Bisco 02:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Missing countries
The code is too complicated for me to edit anything. Please can someone add Spain. Bisco 22:34, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- Spain was included in the template and only missing in the displayed usage code. I've added it there. --Bisco 02:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of ratings on the template page
I think it would be useful to have a link to this Motion picture rating system on the template page. Or include a list of all the ratings. So that everyone uses the correct name or abbreviation of the rating. For instance: IMDb states for a rating for West Germany "16" but it must be "FSK 16". Bisco 22:53, 29 September 2006 (UTC) I would like to have a list of current and old abbreviations for ratings on the page, sorted by country. A much simpler version of Motion picture rating system.Bisco 20:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- I realised that "FSK 16" is the label that is usually printed on the media itself (DVD box etc). On the FSK homepage the rating is called "Freigegeben ab 16 Jahren".
- Bisco 23:36, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've have to correct myself further. "FSK 16" is just an abbreviation for "Freigegeben ab 16 Jahren". I realised also it might be that (the above mentioned) "16" in the IMDb is the name of an old rating which became later "FSK 16".Bisco 20:49, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wow
It's been a while since I've looked at this template, and it looks really great. Good work to everyone who's been maintaining it. -- Ned Scott 07:56, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
